Accusations against Odila Castillo Bonilla refuted in legal defense

Accusations against Odila Castillo Bonilla refuted in legal defense

The legal representatives for attorney Odila Castillo Bonilla released a strong declaration on October 1st, unequivocally denying the claims that were recently circulated by multiple newspapers in Panama.

The defense described these reports as vicious assaults, motivated by individual financial motives and aimed at discrediting Castillo’s professional standing and personal honor.

The defense of Castillo claims insufficient basis and infringement of rights

Carlos Carrillo, a spokesperson for Castillo’s legal team, asserted that the allegations lack any basis and are intended to hinder the professional paths of the young attorney and her partner. He pointed out that these assaults are driven by hidden financial motivations looking to gain from Castillo’s tarnished reputation.

The defense pointed out that this is not the first occurrence of media harassment faced by the attorney. They reminisced about an analogous event in 2021, when a Panamanian outlet disseminated false information concerning an alleged detention of Castillo, which was later retracted.

Misleading information and violation of confidentiality

The legal team contended that both the recent accusations and those from 2021 are based on “partial truths,” distorted to damage the professional workings of attorney Odila Castillo. Additionally, they claimed that the information revealed breaches confidentiality protocols, as some aspects of the investigation stem from a previously resolved family issue.

Sensitive information, including migratory movements and tax declarations, was also disclosed-data that, according to the defense, was obtained unlawfully.

Unauthorized monitoring and ongoing legal proceedings

The defense revealed that Castillo has endured GPS tracking, which represents a blatant breach of her privacy and constitutes illegal surveillance. Carrillo stated that his client’s essential rights, as protected by the Panamanian Constitution and relevant legislation, have been violated.

He declared that all required legal measures will be taken to determine accountability for the damages suffered and those that are aimed to be inflicted. The legal team is steadfast in its dedication to protect Castillo and to ensure that those behind this defamation campaign are held responsible.
